It’s great to always eat in season, and winter brings a lot of great options when it comes to fruits and vegetables. Eating fresh fruits and veggies is the primary way the body gets the nutrients it needs to fight off sickness.
Reduce Immune-Depletion Intake
With diet being so important for your health, it is good to remember what’s bad for your body as well. Reducing your intake of high-sugar foods, alcohol, high-fat food and caffeine can have a great affect on your body. While it seems winter is the perfect time for these treats, do your best to avoid them if you want to improve your health.
Sleep
With the nights getting longer your sleep pattern may get thrown off. Be sure to get 7 to 9 hours per night, as sleep deprivation can reduce the function of your immune system.
Get Outside
When possible, be sure to get outside. While you may not fancy romping around in the snow, spending time in nature is essential to body function, as exposure to sunlight allows your body to increase levels of vitamin D. This vitamin is critical for a quick immune system response.
Stress Reduction
It has been proved that being outside can reduce stress, and a reduction in stress is linked to lower chances of getting sick. Still, there are other methods of stress reduction, including meditation, yoga, acupuncture and otherwise.
Hydrate
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, even when it’s cold outside. Sufficient hydration is critical to virus defense!
