How to Decrease Chances of Getting a Cold or Flu this Winter

‘Tis the season for sneezin’! But it doesn’t have to be! By taking the right steps you can help reduce your chances of catching a cold or flu that might otherwise overcome you during what is historically known as flu season. The following are a few great methods of staying healthy, despite what may be going on around you. If you have any questions about these ways of preventing the flu, be sure to speak with a healthcare professional.
Regularly Wash Hands
Germs thrive on people’s hands, and the more stuff and people you touch, the more likely you are to attract germs that could cause you to get sick. Washing your hands or using hand sanitizer regularly will help kill those nasty germs.
Keep a Clean Personal Space
Make sure to regularly clean your personal spaces at home and work with disinfectant that kills germs.
Limit Interaction with Sick People
If you find yourself in close proximity to someone who is sick, do your best to limit your time around them. While this can be difficult if you’re caring for a sick loved one, it’s for your own good. When you do need to speak to them or otherwise be in contact with them, consider wearing a mask and be sure to wash your hands afterward.
Flu Shot
A seasonal flu shot is always a great way to prevent the seasonal sickness. Don’t pay attention to the folks claiming the shot will actually give you the flu, there is zero truth to the claim. Remember, the shot is also available as a nasal spray for those who don’t want to get poked.
Wellness Plan
To enhance your chances of a healthy winter, talk with your wellness professional. Considering diet, exercise and other variables can help you breathe easy all flu season long.
