How to Get Healthy this Spring

Believe it or not, spring is upon us! As we awake from our winter slumbers and peek out the window to signs of the Northwest sun, we also need to prepare our bodies for the changing seasons. Winter is notorious for wreaking havoc on diets and bodies, in large part due to the abundance of holidays and the desire to stay cozy indoors, often with a cup of high calorie hot cocoa or your favorite adult beverage. To ensure a healthy spring and summer, and life in general, here are a few simple tips that will help you get in shape mentally and physically.
Snack Healthily
It’s easy to fall into bad eating habits during winter, especially with all of the holidays that promote it. As spring rolls around you’ll want to cut the comfort foods and head for the fresh fruits and veggies. Limiting your carb and starch intake will help to reinvigorate your GI tract health too.
Limit Alcohol Intake
We tend to intake higher quantities of alcohol during the winter months as well, as these beverages often go hand in hand with celebration and good food. If you’re looking to improve your mental and physical well being this spring, cutting alcohol should become your number one priority.
Drink More Water
As the sun starts to shine we will become dehydrated more quickly. While we should always be intaking ample amounts of water, start adding to your daily drinking habits to ensure you’re getting enough. Drinking water is a necessity for a healthy life. Among the many things healthy water intake promotes are improved flexibility, heightened mental performance, and healthier skin.
Get Exercise
One of the most important things you can do for your body as spring sets in is start getting more exercise. Spending even just 15 minutes a day will help you burn calories and fat. As you progress in your workout routines add another 15 minutes to boost your sweat time.
