Simple Tips for a Healthier Fall

The fall season brings shorter days, more rain and a change in scenery, thanks the coloring leaves. While these may not sound like drastic issues, it’s a season that often takes a toll on people, mentally and physically. It’s important to stay on top of your personal health during this time of the year so you can remain energized every day and ensure that your immune system doesn’t suffer. Here’s our tips for a healthier fall in the Pacific Northwest.
Eat in the Season
The season for eatin’ is upon us. While it’s easy to grab sweets, even those made from scratch, like grandma’s apple pie, be sure to get your hands on the fresh and nutritious foods of the season. Corn, cabbage, cranberries, garlic, green beans, mushrooms, pears and plenty of other foods are ready for harvest. Keep your gut health in check and your spirits high by visiting the local farmers market.
Vitamin D
The sun is what allows our body to produce much needed vitamin D, which is needed for many reasons, such as keeping bones and teeth nice and strong. Since the sun isn’t shining as much a supplement may be useful.
Staying Active
The shorter days can decrease motivation to go out and do activities that include physical strength. While wrapping up with a blanket on the couch for a night of streaming may sound tempting, be sure to keep up with workout routines. Even short burst workouts at home can keep your muscle strength up and improve immune health.
Get Enough Rest
The changing daylight may alter how you sleep, but be sure to continue getting solid rest. Sleep is beneficial to the immune system, as well as overall energy. While it may take some time to adapt to the shorter days, try not to oversleep either, as there are some studies that show excessive sleep is bad for the body.
